Having relocated to Gloucester Business Park back in 2022, the company has now taken the initial step of seeking a screening opinion from Gloucester City Council. This will determine whether a full environmental statement is needed for the proposed development.
The current plans, still in the refinement stage, encompass a wide array of activities. These include demolition of existing structures, extensive site preparation, the creation of new roadways, the implementation of sustainable urban drainage systems, and, of course, the construction of up to 300 homes.
But it doesn't stop there! The vision also includes the addition of public open spaces, dedicated play areas for children, various leisure facilities, and areas specifically designed for ecological mitigation. This multifaceted approach aims to create a vibrant and balanced community.
And this is the part most people miss... EDF's consultants have emphasized their positive collaboration with the city council throughout this process. They highlight the council's perspective, which views the project as a positive step in bringing an underutilized area back to life, while also providing much-needed housing for Gloucester. The council believes that the mix of residential and commercial uses is perfectly suited for the site's location.
The company is committed to engaging with the local community. They plan to gather feedback and incorporate residents' views before finalizing and submitting the outline plans to the council.
